Beginning ESL (Noncredit) - Certificate

This program in Beginning ESL equips students with the Basic English language skills they need in order to improve employability or to enter into an ESL credit program at the high beginning level. This includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills as well as test-taking skills and the computer skills needed to access course curricula.

Program Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will respond adequately to spoken language appropriate for novice-mid to novice-high level learners and use common concrete vocabulary to speak about familiar topics.
  • Students will read articles and short stories suitable for the level and will write simple sentences using common vocabulary.
  • Students will demonstrate the reading, vocabulary, grammar, writing, listening, speaking and test taking skills necessary in order to successfully score an ESL 930 or higher placement on the college placement exam.
